Hello there! I’m William Terry, casino game lover and guy with a law degree. To anyone reading, you’re probably wondering what a lawyer from the University of Oxford has to do with online casinos. I like to see myself as the definition of where law meets gambling, and it’ll surprise you that they meet quite often.

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, the law had always been something I enjoyed learning from high school. Even with this, there were too many aspects of law, and I couldn’t find one that appealed to me more. I always did the occasional spin the reels or blackjack game to relieve stress, but who would’ve thought the law would apply to my favourite games.

If you’re on this site, you probably love playing casino games too, so there’s no point expressing my love for games right now. To know more about me and my contributions to this site, keep on reading here or check TechRound article. Also, you could drop me a line at GPWA forum – WillTerry.

Why a Career in the Online Gambling Industry?

After studying law, I dabbled as an associate in some law firms before deciding that I wanted to do something unique but related to law. Rather than settling divorces or slamming lawsuits on criminals, a career in the online gambling industry was uncommon.

Since it was uncommon, it immediately became the one thing I wanted to do. I was curious as to what the law side of gambling was, as well as how to make the most of some of my favourite casino games. I already enjoyed gambling, so a career in it isn’t half-bad.

A lot of people wonder if I’m wasting my years of education by writing on playing casino games, but it’s different for me and probably for our users. This career in the online gambling industry takes me to a new field that has barely been studied and allows me to share my findings with likeminded people.

My Experience and Education

I studied at and graduated from the University of Oxford and emerged as a Doctor of Laws. My specialized field is the jurisprudence system of the United Kingdom as I am interested in how laws are applied here correctly. When joined with online gambling, I realized that it would be exciting to study the unexplored gambling laws that are specific to particular states.

Ever since I heard of the Gambling Act, which was released in 2014, my curiosity got the best of me, and I have been working in the online gambling industry since then. I played casino games way before this: the occasional trip to Vegas with my friends or random blackjack competitions online.

I was already familiar with gambling online and offline, and I enjoy playing a wide range of casino games, especially the uncommon ones like keno. This is probably why it was easy for me to apply my education into the world of gambling.

I am currently interested in the revised UKGC laws and how they affect all parts of the UK depending on local laws. If you ever need some legal advice, or you want to know more about legal gambling, I’m always your guy!

Questions and Answers

I answered some of the questions posted on our site to the best of my ability!

What is your favourite casino game, and why?

My favourite game is keno because it’s uncommon. From my bio, you probably noticed that I like to be on the side of the exceptional elements of the world. Keno is more exciting than people expect and offers a decent payout. The fact that it looks like a combination of lottery games, bingo and adds some features of online slots makes me enjoy the game because it makes it work. And my partner Rob Davies specializes in card games like poker.

What do you think is the best casino game to play?

There’s no specific ‘best’ game. It all depends on the context. If you’re looking for the best game for new casino players, online slots is always a good choice. If you want to win big, blackjack works better. For players that wish to play using strategies and deep thinking, poker and baccarat are the best.

What is your view on the recent UKGC laws?

I think the new UKGC laws show the advancement of the gambling industry in the UK, especially in its legal aspect. As I said in my interview, the rules might be inconvenient for many, but that’s the nature of all kinds of laws. With these new laws, I think we can expect there to be more gambling laws as time goes on.

What is one change you want to see in the gambling industry?

I thought long and hard about this, and what I want to see is online gambling becoming legal in more places. Not only because this can lead to a whole legal field to study (wink), but also because it is the restrictions that lead to many illegal sites online.

Any advice for new UK players?

Always play legal games! You should take that advice seriously because it’s coming from a lawyer. Gambling on illegal sites will get you in trouble at the end of the day, so it’s best to be safe and look out for legal websites where you can play.
